Background
David is an established Occupational and Organizational Psychologist with practitioner and senior leadership experience gained across several public, private and non-government organisations in the UK and Europe. He obtained his BA and MA in Psychology from University College Dublin and an MSc in Occupational Psychology from Birkbeck College, University of London. He is currently Senior Lecturer in Organizational Behaviour and a Faculty member of the Organizational Psychology and Applied Psychology Group at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥. David teaches on graduate and executive programmes in the areas of Organizational Behaviour.
Professional Roles and Activities
Prior to joining ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ School of Management his most recent appointment was as at the UK Department for Work and Pensions where he held the role of Chief Psychologist and Head of Profession working in policy development and operational delivery. Previously he has worked in human service organisations in various roles, prisons, and in the development of employment services for underserved groups. David is a Chartered and Registered Occupational Psychologist, a former Chair of both the British Psychological Society's (BPS) Division of Occupational Psychology and the BPS Qualification in Occupational Psychology Board. Presently he is deputy Chair of the BPS Qualifications Committee and is a former Health and Care Professions Council panel member.
Research opportunities
In addition to teaching, David is also a doctoral researcher looking at the lived experiences of disabled people applying for jobs and the role of employer DEI statements in decision making.
Current activities
Publications and Research Interests
David is a past reviewer for the journal Work and Stress and has contributed to programming reviews for the bi-annual American Psychological Association (APA) Work, Stress and Health conference in the United States. He is an international associate member of the APA. His publications include collaborative book chapters in several applied psychology fields and in the BPS publication 'The Psychologist'. He has presented at conferences in Europe and Canada. His scholarly and research interests include work and health over the life course, employee retention, organisational culture and change, the psychological contract and employee engagement, workforce management in complex and high reliability organisations, among others. David is always interested in talking to students about their research ideas and is keen to ensure students have a positive learning experience so values feedback to help continual improvement.
