The project involves citizens and stakeholders through communities of practice, living labs, augmented reality and serious gaming, and addresses social and governance challenges. It also focuses on ensuring long-term adoption of the developed technologies, on which building new business models and services for a circular economy.

ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ carries out pilot-scale studies in the National Research Facility for Water and Wastewater Treatment on an anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) in order to investigate solids management at low temperature. Furthermore, the University is involved in the optimisation and operation of a 500 m3/d AnMBR for water reuse, located in Spernal Wastewater Treatment Plant (UK), in collaboration with Severn Trent Water. The AnMBR is coupled with a degassing unit and ion exchange columns for energy and nutrients recovery. Ultimately, removal efficiencies and methane production data, from the demonstration plant, are recorded and used for the evaluation of the plant overall performance and a cost-benefit analysis.
