Background

Sapphire completed their Msci at Queen's University Belfast in Food Science and Food Security. During their time there they focused their dissertation on Genetically Modified Foods where they analysed different types of genetic modification methods, legislations surrounding GM foods and consumers perception of GM foods. They also undertook a thesis on the Effect of Bioterrorism on the Food Supply Chain, the focus of this was to look at past attacks to the food supply chain and determine how future attacks could be prevented.

Throughout their time at Queen's they developed a love of the agricultural industry and so they moved to ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ to undertake a PhD in Environment and Agrifood where they will investigate postharvest quality traits in raspberries.

Current activities

Sapphire is carrying out their PhD research within Environment and Agrifood, in the School of Water, Energy and the Environment. Their research is focused on a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on an existing raspberry germplasm, to investigate key nutritional traits, and traits linked to fruit post-harvest integrity.
