Contact Dr Stefano Mori

Background

Dr Stefano Mori is a Lecturer in Energy and Materials in the Centre for Energy Engineering specialising in Material Science and Engineer, Physics and Chemistry.

Stefano obtained his PhD at Università degli studi di Roma "Torvergata", in Material Engineering, working on the development of a self-healing coating for corrosion protection of alloys in water environment.

Currently he has worked on materials' degradation in extreme environemnts, including gas turbines, solid fuel power plant, recylcing plants, concentrated solar power. The interest spans from laboratory experiments (bench scale to demonstrator), to development of empirical model, thermodynamic models and application of causale discovery and machine learning algorithm to the understanding of corrosion.

Stefano is an Associated Fellow of the Higher Education Assosiaction, a Member of the Institute of Materials, Mineral and Mining and Admission Tutor for the MSc course in Advanced Mechanical Engineering.

Research opportunities

Applications from postgraduates having developed research questions related to materials degradation in extreme environments, specially if linked to transition of energy systems to net zero, novel fuel for net zero are welcome.

If you are in the process of applying for external funding, then you are invited to contact to correspond on your application to complete your research at ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ as you develop your research proposal.

Current activities

He is currently supervising PhD student working on the development of coatings to protect gas turbine blades materials from degradation.

He has worked withe several partners including: Innovate UK, Horizon2020, EPSRC, SIemens Energy, EDF, Engie, Siemens.
