Contact Dr Dennis Vincent

Background

Dr Dennis Vincent was commissioned into the British Army’s Royal Anglian Regiment and conducted various roles at Regimental Duty which concluded when commanded the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment. During his time at Regimental Duty, he was awarded an MBE for leadership on operations. He deployed with the Regiment on operations in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. His tours at staff were in the areas of training or plans and included roles in Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and with the UN in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. His final staff role was as Colonel Training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

He resigned from the British Army in 2015 to become a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Communication and Applied Behavioural Science in the Faculty of Leadership, Security and Warfare at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He quickly became the Department Deputy Head in 2016 and was the Head of Department between 2019-2024. He was the Module Director of the Postgraduate and Undergraduate Communication and Behavioural Science modules, Understanding Self and Understanding Others. He joined the ÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Centre for Defence Management and Leadership as a Senior Lecturer in 2024.

He has a PhD in Military History and Leadership Studies from King’s College London focused on Leadership at the Operational level, an MA in Defence Studies focused on Military Ethics from King’s College London and an MSc in Leadership and Management from Portsmouth University centred on the British Army’s leadership style. He is a Chartered Manager and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority.

Research opportunities

Dennis's principal research areas are in Leadership at the Operational Level and Applied Military Ethics, and he has authored books book chapters and articles on both subjects. He has also conducted courses, workshops and lectures in both these subjects at military academies, conferences and universities worldwide. He also consults on Conflict Resolution, Leading Change and Thinking Skills.
